At the start of the day's exploring, there were some low clouds and lots of fog. Looked pretty cool.
These mountains were pretty amazing.
Here are some pictures from our day's little excursion on Manuel's birthday. I read online about some castle ruins that involved some scary driving on a poorly-paved, full of potholes and loose rocks road, then some hiking to get the rest of the way to the castle. You could only drive so far on this nail-biting little road (only wide enough for one car, so you better hope no one comes the other direction!) then you had to park at Majorca's oldest restaurant part-way up the mountain. After parking your car, you could look up to the very top of the mountain and see the castle ruins in the distance. If we were to hike from the restaurant to the castle, it would've taken about 1 1/2 hours (and that's without the extra time it might take with small children!). If we didn't have the kids with us, or if it weren't so hot, we would've done it. So, we just admired the castle from afar, and then drove back down the narrow and winding mountain road.
Again, pictures do not do it justice in showing the crazy depth/heighth that we were at.
Little nap for Benicio when we finally got to the restaurant and parked.
You have to look closely, but the castle is there in the middle of the photo.
You can kind of see the zig-zag lines in the mountain for where the trail was... maybe someday we'll be able to tackle it.
Back down the teeny-tiny mountain road!
Heading back into the town of Soller where we were staying. Some signage in case you're lost. ;)
Cheers with our ice cream cones... happy birthday, Dada!
Taking a stroll in Port de Soller.
This is how the little dude tagged along on most of our adventures. :)
Sibling cuddles at the house.
Beach babe. ...Manuel had booked a little boat excursion that would've gone around a part of the island to a couple of beaches, but the waters were too rough, so we went to the beach near our house instead. Lina didn't mind. ;)
Manuel and Benicio were both knocked out!
Like father, like son. ;)
