Day 2 of our weekend in Mayo did not go quite as planned, as the weather was miserable! Rain and wind like crazy, so we ended up taking the kids to an indoor play center (NOT what we drove 3 hours to Mayo for!) for a couple hours. There was no way at that time that we'd be able to do anything with the kids outdoors, so Tumble Jungle it was (grrrr), but it was great seeing them have such a blast. After Tumble Jungle, we tried to find this park that was highly recommended on Trip Advisor with NO luck. Even fancy Google Maps couldn't find it. It took us to a camping park, which is not what I was thinking! Finally we gave up searching for it and decided to deal with the rain and check out Moyne Abbey, some of the largest church ruins, and the kids had a blast exploring that one! When it did rain, they just found a covered part of the abbey to hide under! Something we've realized about finding places in any part of Ireland is that it's not always easy to locate where you're looking for, and then when there are signs, the signs might only get you so far, and then you're left on your own or left wondering where the heck you're supposed to go next. Luckily we saw someone passing by and asked them about being able to enter past what looked like private gates to get to the abbey, otherwise we would've just left without exploring it! There were some strange steps next to the locked gate that we crossed over, then passed by a farm, some cows, and there was the abbey. I'm sure many people looking for it would decide to leave without going past the gate because it seems like you aren't allowed to pass, when in fact you are. Gotta love Ireland!
A super cute cottage we saw when we were unsuccessful in finding the park I was looking for, so I guess it wasn't a total loss!
Lina having a blast at Tumble Jungle.
Moyne Abbey
Next stop was Downpatrick Head, northern Mayo. It was pretty windy, but the rain had stopped for the most part, so I consider that a win! This was truly a breathtaking place!
This area is basically fenced off by large metal poles. It is an area that is basically a huge hole with the crashing waves below, where the ocean has eroded through the land over time. There is a viewing spot to see below. Pretty crazy!
Don't want to fall down there!
Finally, we headed back to our quaint little cottage and called it a night!
